A Practical Woodturning Guide Book

This is a review of a softcover book called Essential Tips For Woodturners. It was published by the Guild of Master Craftsman Publications in 1997. Illustrated with lots and lots of helpful, instructional diagrams and drawings. If you are interested in woodturning and you don’t already own lots of back issues of woodturning magazine, you’ll definitely want a copy of this book handy. You might even want it in addition to the magazines, because this book does have the advantage of being small and compact, with all the tips neatly organized in one place. However this book does not have all the gorgeous glossy photos that you would find in the magazine, even though the black and white diagrams are quite helpful.

Quoting from the back cover of the book: “First published in Woodturning Magazine, these original and inventive tips and hints offer a wealth of practical advice for woodturners of all abilities and experience. Everyone can benefit from ingenious shortcuts and cost-saving devices. Discover a magic formula for turning balls, and how to use wine bladders for storage; learn how to make a cheap faceplate, cut lathe noise and vibrations, make a jig for drilling pen blanks and light pulls…and much, much more. Chucks, modifying and improving lathes, jigs, tools, techniques, dust extraction, safety and protection, sanding and finishing, and storage are all covered in this unique volume.” (End quote from back of book.)
